Where Does a Used MAZDA Dealership Get Its Cars From?

Used Mazda dealerships undergo daily changes in their inventory as models are purchased and additional models are acquired. Regarding the latter, how exactly do dealerships replenish their stock? Learn where the pre-owned vehicles come from.

Acquired from Trade-Ins

Many car buyers trade in their existing vehicle as part of the car purchasing process. Once the vehicle undergoes a multi-point inspection and is deemed serviceable, it is placed in our pre-owned inventory and subsequently listed on our website.

Acquired from Auctions

Unbeknownst to many car buyers, many pre-owned cars are purchased by the dealership at auctions. Car auctions undergo a rigorous process and must be approved by the National Automobile Auction Association. Auction centers mainly acquire their vehicles from car rental centers.

Car auctions may be open or closed. Open auctions may be attended by any registered dealers. Closed auctions, on the other hand, are usually hosted by an auto manufacturer and only dealers representing the brand may attend. In other words, only dealers from Mazda dealerships may attend a closed auction hosted by Mazda automakers.

Former Leases

Some of our used vehicles also consist of models that were previously leased by other customers. When the lease ends, the customer can choose to either start a new lease or just walk away, rather than purchasing the vehicle. Since leased vehicles are typically only several years old and in great condition, most are sold as part of our certified pre-owned (CPO) inventory.
