My Car Battery Died — Now What?

February 20th, 2024 by

A dead battery is one of the most frustrating moments for any driver, especially since it’s such an out-of-the-blue occurrence. So, your car battery died, and you’re now stranded in the middle of a parking lot or you’re stuck on the side of the road. What do you do?

The technicians at Superior Mazda can address a dead or dying battery. Here’s how you can prepare for a dead battery, and how we can help you.

How to Prepare for a Dead Battery

You may not always be able to prevent a vehicle battery from dying suddenly. The next best solution, though, is to be prepared for the scenario.

One way to do this is by having a pair of jumper cables. An even better option is to have a portable jump starter in your trunk. This way, you can jump-start the car without a second functioning vehicle.

What’s Next After a Jump Start?

Some people drive home after jump-starting their car. The problem is that more often than not, a battery won’t start again once you shut off the engine after the initial jump start. This is because the battery is low on voltage.

The better option is to drive straight to a Mazda service center like ours for a battery checkup. A technician can perform a voltage check. Depending on the remaining charge, the battery may be recharged or replaced.

Can’t Jump Start Your Vehicle?

If you don’t have a jump starter or it’s failing to start the engine, then the next course of action is to call for tow service. Have the car towed to your local Mazda dealership. If this is after business hours, then have your car towed home and make arrangements for towing the next day from your home to the dealership.
