MAZDA CX-9 vs. MAZDA CX-90: What’s the Difference?

July 22nd, 2024 by

The Mazda CX-9 vs. Mazda CX-90 is a conversation that has been going on for some time. This is unsurprising considering the Mazda CX-90 replaced the Mazda CX-9. As both are family SUVs, there are naturally going to be similarities.

However, there are notable differences as well. You can see the Mazda CX-90 and perhaps pre-owned models of the Mazda CX-9 at Superior Mazda.

Size and Dimension

2023 was the final model year for the Mazda CX-9. This version had a length of 199.4 inches and a width of 77.2 inches, versus 200.8 and 78.5 inches respectively for the Mazda CX-90. The latter model is slightly larger, providing marginally more leg and headroom. It also has more storage, at 74.2 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded, compared to 71.2 cubic-feet for the Mazda CX-9.

Engine Performance

The Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as standard that produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The current Mazda CX-90 is equipped with the e-SKYACTIV®-G 3.3-Liter Turbo Inline-Six engine with 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque output. There’s also the Mazda CX-90 PHEV variant with a powertrain that produces up to 323 horsepower.

Infotainment Features

The last Mazda CX-9 model had a 10.3-inch infotainment display screen along with a 4.6-inch instrument cluster, complete with a six-speaker system as standard. The Mazda CX-90 has an identical 10.3-inch display screen but with a larger seven-inch digital instrument cluster. And a standard eight-speaker sound system makes your favorite music or podcast sound better than ever.

The Mazda CX-90 has slightly improved features over the Mazda CX-9, though this is by virtue of it being a newer model. You can see the former at Superior Mazda, and we may also have pre-owned models of the latter in our pre-owned inventory.
