Does MAZDA Sell an AWD Hatchback?

November 10th, 2023 by

The Mazda brand carries a number of vehicle types, from sedans to crossovers. One question we receive often is whether our dealership has any hatchbacks that come with an AWD (all-wheel-drive) platform. If you’re considering an AWD hatchback, then is the Mazda manufacturer the right choice for you?

Available MAZDA Hatchback Models

The Mazda3 is available as both a sedan and hatchback. Various features are available and standard for the hatchback version, the most notable of which might be the available 2.5-liter turbo engine that delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. When you opt for this engine type, the brand’s i-ACTIV AWD® comes standard.

The i-ACTIV AWD® drivetrain comes standard with the Mazda3 Carbon Edition, Turbo, and Premium trims. For the base Sport and Preferred Trims, you’ll get a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 191 horsepower. While i-ACTIV AWD® is still available for these models, front-wheel-drive comes standard.

About i-ACTIV AWD®

The i-ACTIV AWD® is available on most current Mazda models and come standard on some premium trims. This is more than just your standard drivetrain. As with conventional AWD drivetrains, power is distributed between all four wheels for optimal tire traction.

However, i-ACTIV AWD® goes beyond. Each year, the manufacturer updates the technology and mechanics for greater fuel efficiency and all-road ability. The system also automatically distributes power as needed based on changing road conditions.
