All About the MAZDA 2.5-Liter Engine

July 10th, 2024 by

What makes Mazda vehicles stand out from the competition is their high-level performance and responsiveness to driver input. This is in large part thanks to the 2.5-liter engine found in most contemporary Mazda models. Learn more about this engine and how it works, and test the engine prowess for yourself by scheduling one or more test drives at Superior Mazda.

About the MAZDA 2.5-Liter Engine

The engine in question is the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine that was first introduced to the Mazda6 and Mazda CX-9. What distinguishes the engine from the competitors is its impressive 14.0:1 compression ratio that yields an estimated 15% improvement in fuel efficiency and torque.

How It Works

SKYACTIV®-G technology works by maximizing thermal efficiency while minimizing knocking combustion. This is achieved through a refined form of direct fuel injection that keeps temperatures stable by maintaining an intricate balance of heat and cooling production. This also eliminates the roughly 30% of fuel energy that’s otherwise expended for mechanical power use in a traditional combustible engine.

Models with the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-Liter Engine

Various models come with the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter engine as standard, starting from the base trim. One example is the Mazda CX-50 which produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

Another model is the Mazda CX-30 with a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. Other models like the Mazda CX-90 have a similar albeit upgraded engine in the form of a 3.3-liter Turbo Inline-six engine.
