2024 MAZDA CX-90 vs. the Volkswagen Atlas

May 15th, 2024 by

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is an excellent choice for commuters looking for a carpool-friendly vehicle. You can see this model at Superior Mazda.

Of course, this is far from your only option. Another contender is the Volkswagen Atlas. Find out how these two family SUVs compare.

Performance Highlights

Though close, the Mazda CX-90 edges out the Volkswagen Atlas with more horsepower and torque. The former has a standard 3.3-Liter Turbo Inline 6 engine with i-ACTIV AWD® that produces 280 hp and up to 340 horsepower in the Turbo S trim model.

By contrast, the Volkswagen Atlas has a 2.0-Liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 269 horsepower. Whereas the Mazda CX-90 has the i-ACTIV AWD®, front-wheel-drive comes standard for the Volkswagen Atlas. All-wheel-drive means better traction and gripping ability, especially on harsh terrains.

Towing Capacity

Towing is a major variable for family SUV buyers. The Mazda CX-90 has a 3,500-lb maximum towing capacity, provided the model is fitted with the optional trailer hitch receiver. A trailer hitch receiver isn’t available for the Volkswagen Atlas, and its tow capacity is 2,000 lbs.

Interior Amenities

There are a number of cabin conveniences that come standard. For instance, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and remote trunk release come standard for the Mazda CX-90 but aren’t available for the Volkswagen Atlas. Furthermore, remote engine start also comes standard, but is available at an extra cost for the Volkswagen Atlas.
