2022 MAZDA CX-5 vs. 2023 MAZDA CX-5: What’s New?

Now that the 2023 Mazda CX-5 is here, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is no longer the newest version of the model. What’s new for 2023? What, if anything, has been updated in terms of technology, design, and performance specifications? Let’s explore.

Performance

For the most part, the 2023 model is unchanged from its predecessor. The essential features and specifications remain more or less the same. For starters, both model years contain the same SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that comes standard. The output is identical at 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Both also have standard i-ACTIV AWD®.

Infotainment

The infotainment also stays the same, with a 10.25-inch display screen as standard. Additional standard inclusions include the MazdaConnect® infotainment system with a four-speaker stereo. Remote keyless entry is included as well.

Exterior Design

The exterior is where there’s a noticeable change. The 2023 model year now has one additional color option available: Rhodium White. Beyond that, the styling remains similar, with designers opting to continue with the brand’s Kodo design architecture, which makes use of sharp angles for a sleek and sporty look. The model received a refresh design in 2022, so there’s no major changes besides an extra color selection.

Safety Technology

The safety features remain unchanged. Both 2022 and 2023 models have these technologies as standard:

• Cross traffic alert
• Blind spot monitor
• Lane keeping assist
• Lane departure warning
• Electronic stability control
• Integrated turn signal mirrors

Cargo Capacity

The cargo space is nearly identical. The 2023 model has slightly more total volume space at 59.3-cubic-feet with the rear seats folded. By contrast, the 2022 model has slightly less volume at 58.1-cubic-feet.
