Mazda to Begin Production in Mexico Market

Mazda Motor Corp. has decided to open up a facility in Salamanca, Guanajuato. Called Mazda Motor Manufacturing de Mexico, the new plant is a joint venture between the Japanese automaker and Sumitomo Corp. Beginning in March of 2014, it will produce the MAZDA2 and MAZDA3 with a maximum capacity of 140,000 units.

Mazda has a strong presence in Mexico and sales have been successful over the year. According to Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda Motor Corp.'s chairman, president and CEO, "Since Mazda established its sales network in Mexico six years ago, we have experienced a remarkable acceptance from the people of Mexico. Last year Mazda sold over 25,000 vehicles and captured over 3% market share," 1

In addition to the economic growth that will inevitably resound in Mexico, Mazda and Sumitomo hope to see positive gains in Japan come from the joint venture as well. To show support, a sizeable host of key players showed up to the new plant's groundbreaking. Among the 400-hundred people present were: the mayor of Salamanca, Japan's ambassador to Mexico, the general director of ProMexico, the Guanajuato state governor and the president of the Economic Commission of the State Congress.

The two models to be produced in Mexico will be made only for the Central and South American markets. However, Superior Mazda invites you to check out any of the new Mazda models we do have available here today.
