MAZDA3 Overtakes MAZDASPEED3

Mazda produces two very popular sedan/hatchback models based on one variant, the MAZDA3. The MAZDASPEED3 was created to be a more powerful option for the younger buyers. The more cost conscious consumers are more interested at the base Mazda model.

Both cars have different options: MAZDA3 in compact sedan and hatchback has front-wheel drive and five-passenger seating. Its engine choices consist of a 148-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder or 167-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder. That is matted to a 6-speed automatic or five-or-six-speed manual transmission. Prices range for the 2010 MAZDA3 from $15,345 up to $22,945.

MAZDA3 has an EPA fuel economy rating of 25 m.p.g. city/33 m.p.g. highway/28 m.p.g. Combined. MAZDASPEED3 has a much lesser MPG rating, due to its larger powerplant. That alone has kept many Mazda buyers away from its extra features and sportier motor.

MAZDASPEED3 has a few more options for someone looking for more speed and power - while it can hold the same number of passengers, it comes with a 263-horsepower, 2.3-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder, connected to a 6-speed manual transmission. Pricing is around $23,340, before taxes.

Both vehicle remain high in the Mazda sales charts and attract lots of attention on dealership lots.
